The Blue Ridge Mountains
Why are the Blue Ridge Mountains blue?
Isoprene is a hydrocarbon emitted by trees as a way to protect themselves from excess heat on summer days. When it’s released into the air, isoprene interacts with other molecules to create the distinctive haze that gives the Blue Ridge Mountains their distinctive name.
